Files and sync

Files is the file storage of the Nextcloud instance your organization's apps run on — the place the documents, images and other uploads behind those apps actually live.

What Files is

Every Nextcloud app in the catalog shares one instance, and Files is that instance's own storage. It holds folders and uploads, keeps a version history for the files it stores, and lets you share what you put there. What an app can see of it is decided by the app, not by Files.

Reaching Files

Files is a Nextcloud app like any other, so it is reached the same way: open it from its row on your organization's Workspace page, then from the Nextcloud app menu. The page you land on is the instance itself, so every Nextcloud app in the catalog is one menu entry away from it.

Keeping a folder in step

The instance speaks WebDAV, so a desktop client can mount it as a folder on your computer and a mobile client can keep selected files on a phone, and anything else that understands WebDAV can be pointed at it. The Nextcloud project publishes the clients and the connection details for both: Nextcloud's own documentation.

Sharing

Files lets you share what you store — with other people on the instance, and by link. What a share can reach is decided by that configuration, and configuring it is your organization's job; the platform runs the instance and does not decide who sees which file.
